Lecture
We started today's lecture by reviewing everybody's letters and critiquing each other's work. We each feedback from either each other and or Mr.Vinod.
Once that was done, we moved on to re-doing out letters again and making a few changes, according to the comments we received.
After, we moved on to the lecture part of the class where we learned more about letters and the makings of it.
My favourite part was learning about what the different lines were and their names/what they were for when constructing a letter.
They lines were called:
- Ascender line
- Cap line
- Main line
- Baseline
- Descender line
The spaces in BETWEEN the lines were called:
- Ascender space
- X-height
-Descender space
Task 2 (15%): Type Design
You are to design a number of alphabets and punctuations, as determined by the teacher. You will begin by sketching and exploring a minimum of 3 options.
You are to design a number of alphabets and punctuations, as determined by the teacher. You will begin by sketching and exploring a minimum of 3 options.
The sketches of the alphabets are to be submitted on A4 graph paper for selection. As always, you will understand, analyse and reflect on the knowledge acquired during the allotted weeks for the task in your ePortfolio.
Starting with the letter “o” design a string of alphabets of similar characteristics. The subsequent letters must spell your name and therefore the characteristics of the letters must represent your personality.
Secondary Research:
Videos: 1.
Feedback:
My letter is impractical! Based on the very first letter I created. Other than that, Farisya said it was "so me."
Experience:
I watched a few of the videos posted on the "Typography" page. It was alright, slow. HOWEVER I then stumbled upon the video that I posted above and I LOVE it! It was so interesting and inspiring! It definitely gave me a fresh look to the value of what its like to design letters, how much of an art form it really is.

Observations:
I'm inclined to create a simple design. I don't want anything too complicated or too much. They are meant to be letters to write with, so I'm really aiming for just a piece of the norm - with a twist.

Findings:
I wish I had more ideas to come up with! I feel like I keep doing the same designs, but with small changes. I'm hoping to keep returning to my work with a fresh pair of eyes and continue designing until I'm satisfied.
I like what I have so far, but I don't LOVE it.
